What is Partners in Policymaking for Service Providers?

Partners in Policymaking is a leadership program that is designed to build collaboration among people with disabilities, parents who have children with disabilities, service providers and policy makers at national, state and local levels. In Connecticut, sixteen (16) classes of Partners have completed the training since 1989. They are recognized as skilled and capable leaders in disability issues in their communities and in the state. Until now, the Partners graduates have been people with disabilities and their family members. For the first time, however, we are offering the same intensive training to providers who work in the field of disabilities and seek to be leaders of system change and advocacy in the disability arena.

Who Should Apply?

This training is for individuals who work in the field of disability including service providers and administrators. Participants must actively participate in training and discussion and complete an advocacy project. Twenty-five (25) participants will be chosen. All applicants must have a signature and recommendation from their agency director included with their application. Participants will be expected to attend all sessions.

About the Training

The Connecticut Partners in Policymaking training consists of seven training sessions with nationally recognized speakers and state experts in disability issues. All training is provided at no cost to participants, including the cost of meals.
