Early Childhood Intervention

Children Adopted from China

OVERVIEW

The purpose of this project was to gather information about the experiences of families who have adopted children from China and to make this information available to families with an adopted child or who wish to adopt a child from China, early intervention service personnel, and Part C coordinators. Specific areas of inquiry included child development, child progress, family quality of life, parenting experiences, and early intervention services.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Two specific studies were conducted; one documenting parental perceptions of child progress and participation in early intervention services and one focusing on child behaviors as predictors of child attachment and family well-being.
  • A database that documents the strengths, needs, and concerns of this growing population was created.
  • Data reports detailing the results of the studies were completed.
  • A newsletter and flyer were disseminated to help inform early intervention personnel and others about this population.
